Day 198: Who Needs a Studio!? Truly Mobile Media. How It All Works

Who needs a studio to produce great sounding current affairs and music podcasts!? Not bloody well me, that’s for sure!

Just like most people during COVID lockdown, my home is my workplace. The big difference is that it’s the case regardless of COVID…and my home has wheels.

Living, working and travelling in my hastily fitted out 2019 Ford Transit gives me the ability to do what I love – produce audio anywhere and anytime. The fully professional workdesk (apart from the soon-to-be-replaced table) you see in the photo took five minutes to set up.

With that, I can record broadcast quality, hook in three additional microphones and headsets for interviewees, and even hook in a interviewee via mobile phone or Bluetooth. It all runs off 240V, which is built in to Violet the Van.

And a big shout and thanks to Darebin City Council for the amazing natural beauty at Bundoora Park, where I’ve been “stuck” for several weeks; and to the staff and CEO who generously support CMR by providing secure parking for me when I’m in Melbourne.

Rock on and stay safe – Charles
