For much of lockdown, the beautiful Bundoora Park in the City of Darebin has been my home. The strictures imposed by the government pretty well demand it; and for the majority of the time it has been absolutely wonderful. I have even made new friends, such as the wonderful Jade who dropped off some brownies.
But…yes, there’s inevitably a “but”…as I drove out of the park yesterday to relocate to my night time spot – also sponsored by City of Darebin (thank you) – I passed by a young couple who were obviously working on fitting out their van as a camper/tiny home.
Well, as a full-time van-dweller I naturally gave them a wave and a smile, thinking how great it was that more people are recognising the amazing benefits of such a life.
This morning, though, driving back into the park I saw something that made me hope they never get to live on the road. A pile of rubbish and left-over materials from their van building work, simply thrown under a bush.
These people are nothing short of inconsiderate and filthy!
As full-time vanlifers we really do get a bit of a bad name due to such people.
I recall reading an article recently about vanlifers at Byron Bay in NSW who left human faeces (poo) on the nature strip in one area. Then there are those who empty their pee bottles (yes, we pee in a bottle for the most part) then wash them in public sinks!!! (I take mine away and rinse it with vinegar, by the way.)
In the majority of cases, though, we vanlifers are clean and respectful of our environment and immediate surrounds.
Those others, such as the couple leaving this mess in my “home” at Bundoora Park? Beneath contempt!
